Like any photo contest, we will be choosing the most creative and eye-catching photos from our valued customers! But do not be pressured, in this article we will be sharing a few tips on how to take great photos. This is a great way for you to practice on your photography skills and win prizes while you’re at it!

The best part, you don't have to use expensive cameras or be a professional photograper to get good photos and win. All you have to do is focus on the subject, tell a story, be simple, pay attention to framing, and get some good light! But most importantly, you just have to have fun! Good luck, Soylings!
  • The Subject
Your photography is your piece of art. For people to notice a good photo, you have to be clear on your subject. Make sure your subject is not blending in the background. Make sure it stands out from the crowd and the noise. For The Soy Inc photo contest, make sure the logo is facing the camera.
  • Tell a Story
There is a story to tell behind every great photo. Connect with your viewers by telling a visual story. Channel emotions to your photo and let the viewers feel something – do you want them to feel hungry, excited, joyous, beautiful? Be very concise on that aspect. You can take a photo of any subject, it may be a simple object, may it be inanimate or not. The trick is for you to evoke a sense of magic to your shots.
  • Aim for Simplicity
The simpler the better. As the old saying goes, “less is more”. Remove uneccesary objects that confuse you viewers’ eye. Have as little distractions in the image as possible. If you feel fancy and want to spice up your photo with a few props, ensure that it coincides wwith the subject and the feeling you wish to invoke your viewers. Ensure the subject is distinguished. Use light to create contrast, and bring the viewer’s eye to the subject. A simple yet profound subject is what it takes to get great photos.
  • Pay attention to framing
The key to getting a great photo is to capture visually appealing and balanced images. When people look at photos, their eyes are naturally attracted to the points of interest. Familiarize yourself with the rule of thirds. This will give you symmetric photos. This makes your shots eye-catching and eye-pleasing. Try and have as many aspects of the image lay on the rule of thirds lines as possible.
  • Get good Lighting
Get natural light to your photos for better lighting. For photographers, the golden hour is the peak of taking amazing shots. The golden hour starts one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset. It has a soft, warm, light which makes your shots look a tad bit dramatic. You can try playing with shadows, and experiment with contrast to bring life to your shots.

Joining a photo contest can be super exciting. If you are an aspiring food photographer, this contest is for you! If you just want to join in the fun, expert or not, you are more than welcome. We all want our valued customers to enjoy this contest. Remember the point in How to tale good photos: Focus on the subject, tell a story, be simple, pay attention to framing, and get good light.
